CWF
2007: Making the
Connections in a Global Context
The
links between community, work and family have
generated widespread interdisciplinary and global
interest and now constitute an important area of
study in the social sciences, with major
implications for a range of professionals and
policy makers.
The
First
International Community, Work and Family
Conference, which took place in Manchester in
March 2005, and recent issues of the journal Community,
Work & Family,
have highlighted the important connections between
the areas of community, work and family, and
between countries connected in the Global context.
At the local level, connections between the local
communities, families and work are also important.
The connections, and disconnections, between
policy and practice are also frequently debated.
The
second International Conference will be hosted by CIES-ISCTE
and will take place in Lisbon, Portugal. It
will again provide a forum for social scientists
and practitioners to share research, experiences
and ideas and to
stimulate debate on current issues and
controversies relating to community, work and
family and their interface. There will be a
particular focus on connections and disconnections
at all levels and from multiple perspectives.
